Central Canadian
Rocky Mountains
Why our area is a priority area:
Our area is a priority area because lots of animals are endangered such as the grizzly bears. It is a beautiful place to visit so it should get preserved so the environment and the humans can interact. It is a habitat for animals, food for animals and enjoyment for people. If this area is not preserved, all of the animals habitats and animals will be endangered. Lots of plants are found there. Such as the Wild Rose. If this area was not part of the Y2Y initiative, the plants would die and animals would lose their habitat.
The Central Canadian Rocky Mountains is one of the largest protected landscapes in the entire Yellowstone to Yukon region (550-km long). The Central Canadian Rocky Mountains protected area extends from Kakwa Provincial Park on the northern part of the Alberta/British Columbia (B.C.) border, to Peter Lougheed Provincial Park southwest of Calgary, Alberta. This important habitat has four national parks (Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho) and several provincial parks and wilderness areas inside of it.
