Why is our region unique?
Our region is unique because it is used by elk to cross onto a different island. Some people say that the peace River break is one of Canada's best kept secrets. Many interesting animals live there like the brave elk, the fearsome bear and the elegant deer. This area has been developed because of its plentiful oil, coal and fish. This area is a good place to relax and get away from it all. Y2Y is trying to save this amazing place. This area is also unique because it has a river filled with fossils like teeth, shells and Trilobites. Peace river was under water in the Cretaceous time period and was above water in the Jurassic, there are T-Rex skeletons in very good shape In the peace river because is was a very muddy place at theTime.
WOLVERINES
Appearance:large head with power full jaws they have small eyes and ears.strong legs and sharp,and long claws for dinging and ripping
people to shreds:).they have a long thick tail and thick dark fur with lighter patches over shoulders and hips and very thick-bodied.
Habitat:They live in Alaska, Rocky Mountains, Sierra Nevada Mountains, and North Cascades Mountains.
Ash (Fraxinus)
Bark is crisscrossed with ridges and resembles a woven net and About 70 species of ash in the world.it is very common and I have one in my
back yard.it is a deciduous tree so the leaves fall in the fall.
Elk
Elk are very interesting animals. Bull elk lose their antlers in March, then start to grow them back in May in preparation for the breeding season. The average lifespan of an elk is 8 to 12 years. Most elk are very large, some elk can tower 9 feet.
Pine
Pines are evergreens. They can grow up to 80 meters tall. The bark of most pines is thick and rough. Pines live long lives, the can live up
to one thousand years! Pines grow in acid soil. Some pines can sprout after forest fires

What is important about the peace river break?
The peace river break is the only river in y2y that cuts through the Rocky Mountains. For years the peace river break has been developed for mining, oil and gas. Right now y2y is trying to turn this into a less industrialized area. The peace river break is home to many endangered and at risk species of animals. This extraordinary area is housed in the narrowest part of y2y. The continental climate supports several diverse ecosystems. This interesting place is a migration path for moose, they make there way along the river. This river flows to the east west. Unfortunately there is plans to make a dam witch will flood an 83 km section of this amazing place. The dam will flood part of a a popular tourist attraction, the Peace River. The River helps elk and deer migrate. |
