Flora and Fauna:
Horse mint, grand fir, rocky Mountain maple, sunflower, butter cup, mountain alder, white bark pine ,douglas fir, western paper birch and quaking aspen all live here. Saskatoon berry western pearly everlasting, pipers anemone are plants that can be found here. Big horn sheep, mountain goats, elkmoose, mule deer, white tailed deers, Cougars, wolves, black bears Lynx, coyote and red fox all live in our region.
The interior Douglas fir is a coniferous tree it is the second tallest coniferous tree in the world . That stand at an impressive 42 meters .The bark is smooth grey and brown. Douglas fir lives for around 500 to 1,000 years.
Paper birch trees is one of the coniferous trees in salmon selway bitterroot ecosystem. The trees are commonly found in the mixed hardwood forests all over North America. The north western paper birch is the most commly found birch it is found all over North America mainly in Canada.
What makes this region unique is: This region has Snake River in it, which is the longest river in the U.S that empties into the Pacific. It is also 1,078 miles long. This region also used to be thriving with Grizzlies & Y2Y is working on making Salmon-Selway a habitat for the endangered grizzly bears. SSB (Salmon-Selway Bitterroot) has one of the largest continuous roadless areas in the lower 48 states.

The Importance Of The Area
Our area is 1.3 million acres large and is one of the largest continuous roadless areas in the 48 lower states. It is suitable habitat for grizzly bears. There are two towns in the area both along the snake river. There is few people in these towns combined and that means less people around to wreck the ecosystem. The ecosystem is vibrant because the area is very untouched. The reason why they are using the area as one of the blocks in the route is because it has many different habbats for the variety of different species
