The peace river break is a linkage zone between two grizzly bears populations. If one population runs out of food they go through the peace river break to get more food. The Peace River break is at the narrowest point in the entire Yellowstone to Yukon region. The narrow piece of land allows wildlife to move between 2 big islands of protected habitat. The Muskwa-Ketchikan ecosystem area to the north and the Central Canadian Rocky Mountains, to the south. Keeping this connection intact is critical to the Yellowstone to Yukon vision.
